What is PROSE?

MS 447 is now part of The Progressive Redesign Opportunity for Schools of Excellence (PROSE) program was established as part of the new contract between the UFT, CSA and the DOE. The PROSE program enables schools to implement innovative practices outside of existing rules. Administrators and teachers in PROSE schools collaboratively engage in school improvement efforts and leverage granted flexibilities in the UFT and/or CSA contracts, as well as Chancellor’s and/or state regulations in order to better meet the needs of their students. By 2015, the 62 current PROSE schools, along with a second cohort identified in spring, will have developed their plans to refine school practices and will begin implementation. The PROSE program is designed to:

  1. Foster continuous innovation to challenge some of the basic rules and regulation under which they have historically operated in service of improved student outcomes.
  2. Foster collaboration within and across school communities.

As a PROSE school, MS 447 is able to adjust school day times in order to provide office hours to all students. It also enables us to learn and grow from our colleagues in other schools through inter-visitations.
