This year teachers and staff were especially excited for the opening of school. For the first time, we planned an extensive transitioning ‘back to school’ program for the opening two days. This allowed for a natural and welcoming transition to the new school year. It was a time to become familiar or re-familiar with the school – physically, emotionally, and socially. Students were also given an opportunity to meet with all teachers and introduced to all content areas. MS 447 wanted to give all a chance to experience our cohesive and caring environment. We wanted to recognize each individual’s uniqueness, allow for creative expression, as well as draw attention to the many things that bind and define us.
Students and staff participated in a host of activities that helped all get acclimated to 447. These included introductory activities, group bonding experiences, a ‘mock’ schedule, assembly for each grade, a ‘buddy breakfast’ for 6th and 8th graders, grade excursions, and a host of other events. We hope this was an enjoyable and informative time for all.
Warm Regards for a Successful School Year!
