Please Consider Participating in Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Schools
BLM Week of Action is Monday, February 4 through Friday, February 8. Throughout the school week students will be invited to engage in a variety of activities. We also want to extend this invitation to families. Please join us for IMAGINE: A Creative Community Event on Thursday February 7th from 6-7:30 pm at MS 447. In solidarity, students and families can simply attend the evening’s celebration or bring creative art forms to share with our community. You are invited to create an original piece or share your favorite, dance, music, artwork, poetry, spoken word, prose, photography, videography, or other art form that responds to the prompt, “Schools show that black lives matter when they…” or “Imagine the school and world you want to see…” or celebrates diversity, black lives, and community in any way.
Black Lives Matter at School is an affirmation and restoration of the humanity of black students. It is a recognition that schools, including ours, sometimes have disproportionately harsh consequences for black students, and that many black students don’t see themselves or their culture reflected in their teachers or curriculum. Our assertion that Black Lives Matter at School is a statement in support of human rights. During this week, we will celebrate and affirm black lives.
Please look for the Google Form Invite in your email or your child’s school email and indicate your attendance and/or your willingness as a participant in the event.
