8th Grade Exploration: MEMORIALIZING MOVEMENTS FOR JUSTICE

Our first unit seeks to engage in our national memory by asking, who deserves a monument? The unit centers on movements for justice that expand human rights in the United States. The student learning target is, “I can honor a movement for justice by developing a tribute for public engagement.” In order to meet our goals students will learn about one movement’s vision and revolutionary individuals leading the charge, acknowledge past achievements and discover future goals to improve society. Finally, students will design a memorial or monument honoring positive change created by a movement for justice.
