Please join us this Tuesday, 2/24, at 8:10 a.m. in Room 338 for an important PTA meeting. Governor Cuomo has proposed significant changes to the system for teacher evaluation system which would have a profound negative impact our school, as well as every public school in New York State. His proposal, which is connected to his proposed state budget, will come to a vote on April 1st, and it is critically important that we—school administrators, teachers, and parents—are unified in our resistance against this proposal and act quickly.
Here are some main points of the proposal:
- 50% of teachers’ evaluation rating would be based on state test scores.
- 35% of teachers’ evaluation rating would be based on one observation by an outside evaluator (rather than the school principal/assistant principals) who knows little about our school.
- Only 15% of teachers’ evaluation rating would be based on the many observations by the school principal/assistant principals (compared with 60% currently).
