Frederick-Wint Memorial Fund

Dear MS447 Families,

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we learned of the untimely death of beloved 8thgrade teacher and advisor Tonia Frederick. Ms. Frederick gave so much of herself to our children, encouraging them to aspire for the best but holding them responsible for the work that was needed to accomplish their goals. It is hard to believe that she will not be with us to finish sending off the Class of 2014 to high school or to nurture future classes. Yet we have no doubt that the lessons and inspirations she imparted to our children will be carried with them for the rest of their lives.

Ms. Frederick was a single mom to three wonderful children, the oldest following in her mother’s footsteps as an educator at Millennium Brooklyn HS, her middle child of college age and the youngest at The NY Harbor School. Our deepest sympathies go out to them as they grieve the loss of their mother. We cannot imagine how difficult this must be given that this should have been a joyous time for them as they celebrated the recent milestone of home ownership. Ms. Frederick and her oldest daughter just recently purchased a family home. We ask that you not only keep them in your thoughts but if your finances allow join us in donating to a mortgage fund that has been created to alleviate at least one of the hardships of the untimely death of their mom. Donations may be made to the MS447 PTA through this link:   https://www.crowdrise.com/toniafrederickmemorial/fundraiser/ms447.  Thereafter, the PTA will make one donation from our school community.

Ms. Frederick will be sorely missed— by her family, colleagues, students and all the parents she helped decode the mysteries of the wandering adolescent mind. Ms. Frederick was a mother, an educator and an all-around great lady who never failed to offer help and inspire. She made her family proud and the MS447 community is most definitely a better place for having been blessed with the presence of Tonia Frederick.
