Talking about Diversity – Family Resources

Our Annual Peace & Diversity Conference is here.  Inspired by the words and actions of Martin Luther King Jr, we plan this day to coincide with the holiday that celebrates his life.  On January 22nd, our school will bring our students together to learn more about identity, appreciate the freedoms that we now enjoy, and recognize the continued effort that is needed  for better understanding and equality for all people.

During the conference all students will enjoy a performance in the school’s newly renovated auditorium.  All grades will have a guest speaker. Our staff and 8th graders are contributing to the Cultural Gallery that all classes will visit.  And, classroom activities and lessons will focus on the day’s theme.  The topic is being further explored through our Advisory Program.

We are encouraging families to have discussions about identity – race, religion, gender, ethnicity, and other social identifiers at home.  Provided are some resources that we hope will facilitate those conversations.    Please look for a hard copy of this packet that each student will take home.  It is our sincere hope that together we can ensure greater understanding and treatment for all.

Kind Regards,

MS 447 Staff
