School Pledge of Peace

Hello All,

Our 6th and 7th graders recently read, talked about and signed our School Pledge of Peace.  8th graders will be doing so on Up Standers Day, Decemeber 19th.  Signatures were collected and posters hung around the school.  We are very proud of how our students received this activity and look forward to many more community building events.   Lessons and activities centering around this theme continues to be presented in our Advisory Program.  We are leading up to our Annual Peace and Diversity Day, now scheduled for January 21st.  We’ll keep you posted as to this and other related events!  Best Regards, for a Peaceful Holiday Season!!!  School Administration and Staff.

School Pledge of Peace

Making peace must start within ourselves and in our school.  Each of us, members of The Math & Science Exploratory School, on this day, December 4th, 2013, commit ourselves as best we can to become peaceful people.

To Respect Self and Others
To respect ourselves, to affirm others and to avoid uncaring criticism,
hateful words and self-destructive behavior.

To Communicate
To share our feelings honestly, to look for safe ways to express our anger,
and to work at solving problems peacefully.

To Listen
To listen carefully to one another, especially those who disagree with us,
and to consider others’ feelings and needs rather than insist on having our own way.

To Forgive
To apologize and make amends when we have hurt another,
to forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges.

To Respect Nature
To treat the environment and all living things with respect and care.

To Celebrate Diversity
To learn about and embrace the diverse lives represented in our school community.

This is our pledge.  These are our goals.  In making this pledge we hope that it will make us better people for ourselves and our community.
