Donate Your Gently Used Jeans

The 8th Grade Be the Change Service Learning Group has created a donation campaign.  Our project is called Jeans for joy! We would like to invite you to drop off your newly washed and  gently used jeans (pants and shorts) in the jean collection boxes in our school.  Throughout this campaign we will collect jeans from the MS 447 community and give them to people who can’t afford to purchase necessary clothing. The donated items will be taken to local soup kitchens, like CHIPS, and shelters, like Covenant House, where they will be distributed to homeless teens and adults, therefore we ask that the jeans be at least teen sizes through adult sizes. (If we get some kids’ sized jeans we will of course find a place for them, but our target population is our age and older.) Our hope is that these jeans bring happiness and joy to those who receive them.

The donation boxes will be located on the 6th grade wing, in the Quiet Room, by the school office, in room 326,  and near the Guidance Suite. The deadline for donations is May 24th, so come out and donate!  This is just one of our many projects throughout this unit. As we collect jeans (pants and shorts too) we are learning not only the importance of helping others in our community but also the importance of upholding their dignity.

Thank you!
